Seagrass Advance mooring system design

Advanced mooring systems or ‘eco-moorings’ are mooring systems that have been created to mitigate the impact of boating activities and to reduce the impact of human disturbance on seagrasses.

Natural England Advanced Mooring System numerical analysis by Morek Engineering

The main objective of the work was to model the behaviour of Advanced Mooring Systems (AMS) for mid-size recreational craft at 5 UK locations as part of the Life-Remedies project.

The modelling was undertaken using Orcaflex, including the vessel, mooring and ocean dynamics (wave, current, wind and seabed depth and type). The modelling work allowed the assessment of the effectiveness of each of the mooring designs and allowed comparison to the traditional block and chain baseline mooring.

“Morek Engineering did a fantastic job exploring this new concept. The project staff were friendly and approachable and had excellent technical knowledge and expertise of the work area. The team worked professionally to tight deadlines and went out of their way to produce above and beyond the original requirement. The outputs of this project have been highly valuable and are regularly used in ReMEDIES stakeholder communications.“
