Morek was established with the aim of dedicating our specialist skills towards a sustainable future, in both ethos and action.
For us this means applying our knowledge and know-how towards enhancing and strengthening the blue economy. We focus our efforts towards three main objectives:
- Generating of clean energy from the power of the marine environment
- Reducing the impact of marine transportation
- Contribution to the reversal and recovery of our polluted seas

“We hold a strong track record in innovative and critical thinking. We harness and apply the full potential of research and innovation in our technical work. As a small, but experienced team, we work closely with clients to deliver above and beyond”
Managing Director and Morek Founder Bob Colclough is a chartered Naval Architect with a comprehensive track record in the delivery of technical expertise to the marine industry. Bob holds a diverse engineering skill set which combines a strong theoretical background in marine hydrodynamics and hydrostatics, with hands-on experience of the practical issues of installation and operation in the marine environment.
Prior to starting Morek Bob was the head of engineering at UK marine services provider James Fisher, he has worked in marine renewables since 2007 after graduating from the University of Southampton with a Masters degree in Ship Science.

Jovie is Morek’s Lead Project Engineer with almost a decade of experience in engineering analysis to support the offshore renewable’s industry, specialising in marine operations modelling and mooring design. These skills are complemented by significant experience supervising marine operations on a broad range of offshore projects. He is equally happy offshore supervising a 200-tonne heavy lift as analysing the dynamics of a complex offshore systems model.
Jovie has a degree in Mechanical Engineering, a Lloyd’s Certificate in Naval Architecture and is currently pursuing chartered status. He was recently awarded Business Cornwall’s 30 under 30 for his role in starting and developing Morek.

Lead R&D Engineer Jamie Maxted is a chartered mechanical engineer with the IMechE. He has a strong track record in developing innovative solutions to complex offshore design challenges. Throughout his career Jamie has worked primarily as a project engineer / design engineer in the onshore and offshore renewable energy industries since completing a Masters degree in Renewable Energy Engineering from the University of Exeter in 2016.
Jamie has developed a varied analytical and practical skillset since working in the renewables / offshore industry which includes structural design and analysis, dynamic analysis, 2D & 3DCAD, FEA, mooring design & analysis, deck layouts design &sea-fastening arrangements, lift plans, project planning & documentation, and offshore support.

Sophie is an Analysis Engineer with a strong background in engineering design, analysis, and programming, specialising in offshore renewable energy. She holds a Master’s degree in Renewable Energy Engineering from the University of Exeter and has postgraduate research experience in metocean modelling.
Since joining the team, Sophie has taken the lead in developing and managing our programming and coding capabilities, integrating OrcaFlex with Python to deliver iterative design processes and optimised engineering solutions. She has applied her expertise across a broad range of technical projects, rapidly developing key skills in areas such as the design and optimisation of Ocean Energy Converter moorings and the development of a metocean data toolbox.
In addition, Sophie brings valuable experience in GIS and has previously worked as a Wind Energy Analyst, further strengthening her multidisciplinary understanding of the renewable energy sector.
